At DRAYTON, we’re serious about fabric. And for our first collection of unisex boxer shorts, we chose one material above all: 100% cotton poplin.

But what actually is poplin? And why does it matter?

So, what is cotton poplin?

Cotton poplin is a plain-weave fabric known for its smooth finish, durability, and breathability. Originally used in shirting and tailoring, poplin has roots in British and French textile history — and has long been favoured for its clean look and structure.

It’s lightweight but not flimsy. Soft but crisp. And it holds its shape beautifully — even after washing.

Why we chose it for boxers

Boxers don’t just live in your wardrobe — they live on your body. They move with you, stretch, sleep, and spin through the wash. That means they need a fabric that works hard without sacrificing comfort.

Poplin delivers on all fronts:

  • Structured, so it looks smart layered or on its own

  • And crucially, it’s 100% natural — no synthetics, no blends.

We also source Oeko-Tex certified cotton poplin, meaning it’s free from harmful chemicals and safer for skin and the planet.

A fabric with fashion history

Poplin has long been a favourite in heritage tailoring — from military uniforms to fine shirting. That legacy lives on in our design: classic button fly, clean seams, and timeless prints like blue and pink Toile de Jouy.
